HOW DOES IT FEEL TO LIVE IN YOUR BODY?
Do you experience tension? How do your shoulders, back and jaw feel? What happens to your neck when you move your eyes? And what about your breathe? Can you feel its rhythm, its pace, its temperature?
Somatics looks at these questions and asks us to observe how we move our body from within. It is a re-education of the nervous system releasing subconsciously held tension patterns. Clinically, it is used to retrain people out chronic pain, caused by unhelpful posture and movement habits. But it is used as a general practice, a real moving meditation used to unwind into deep relaxation- to help the body restore.
“Yogas chitti vritti nirodha”. Yoga is ultimately a practice to still the fluctuations of the mind. But on the mat, we get distracted by our own thoughts, shopping lists, appointments and judgements. Soma Yoga is not a new discipline, it is two principles helping each other in order to delve within. Soma looks at increasing sensory motor awareness, diaphragmatic breathing and mental focus. Through the lense of yoga asana and philosophy, we begin to talk to our muscles and cell tissue directly and see how our inner dialogue creates our physical world.
In this workshop, we will unpack the history and science behind somatic movement and how we can deepen our understanding using yoga. This is a session where we play with movement, learning how to find ease and actually, to have fun again! Contact a deep reservoir of energy by relaxing. Together we will discover a practice that lets you come back to your body with joy.
The workshop will be held in English
